DONE.

Absolutely the sweetest show I’ve watched in a long time. Every character strikes the perfect balance between lovable and flawed. I’m so excited to watch the second season when we’re all back to bumming around the LB.

Rules So I Actually Keep The Money I Make

• New budget plan: do not buy anything ever. Except gas.

So I went to see this movie instead of Salt, because the latter was meant to be a complete trainwreck despite all the potential it had to be my next hit of girl!spy heroin. And y’know what? I defend this choice. The story itself was pretty weak but the dancing never fails to please me. I loved Step Up. The first one. Solid movie in every way. Great story, sweet romance, some truly excellent dancing. Step Up 2 was pretty abysmal, but it was saved but a stellar final dance (the breathing thing to Timbaland’s Bounce? Love of my life) and a very sweet, awesome, and talented minor character named Moose. And so Moose returned in Step Up 3, which I opted to not see in 3D because I’m not a fucking idiot. I saw exactly what I expected to see (shitty acting, awesome dancing), and was satisfied upon exiting the movie theater. I couldn’t have asked for anything more. Well, I could’ve, but I’m trying this thing where I’m not such a whiny bitch.

And yeah, okay, secret’s out. Dance movies are kind of a super guilty pleasure of mine. Also, inspirational sports movies. I really don’t get myself sometimes.

DONE.

Hannah and I have officially trashed God of War II in a matter of five once-a-week evenings, and it was an astounding team effort. Literally, at least two of the final bosses required both of us to play certian parts, or even, at one point, both of us on a single controller (fuckin’ Zeus’ split-second quick time events). And in the end, we were rewarded handsomly…with THE COD OF WAR.

I know that every time I mention this show, it’s to bitch…and I have absolutely no qualms with continuing this trend.

How stupid is this fucking opening sequence? Like, I almost enjoy the music, but the rest of it is just shit. The ending in particular gets me, with her stupid little card swipe and smug smirk. And the awkward dance she does with that guy, and. I think my hatred for this show is getting irrational, and I think I recognize this, which is why I continue to keep giving it chances. Because I’m trying to prove myself wrong or something.

I was already pretty into Modern Family, but this scene from the episode “En Garde” absolutely made it for me. I really can’t describe how much I love this show. Everyone’s just dysfunctional enough that it makes for awkward situations and good television, but it’s not all rageragerage “my family sucks” failure. There are some genuinely sweet moments that positively make my heart melt, and this one is by far my favorite.

So I’m switching my last TV show of the summer from Avatar to this for a few reasons:

1. I have a lot of friends who want to watch Avatar with me at college, and since I love sharing TV shows I adore with other people who I know will fall for them too, I figure Avatar can wait for the company of Alex and Taylor and maybe Erin if I can rope her into it.
2. There are 61 episodes of Avatar and 24 episodes of Modern Family. C’mon now. I also only have about a week and a half left before leaving for Hawaii and then Boston immediately after, and I haven’t even started packing yet.
3. I’ve already seen a couple episodes of Modern Family and know that I find it to be sweet and hilarious, so it’s not like I’m really taking a risk by investing time in it.

THUS, Modern Family will be rounding out my summer TV list. Still to come: Salt and Scott Pilgrim from the Movies header and On Beauty under Books. It’ll happen.

Rolling right on into this basket of awesome.

This includes the movie, which was really actually just okay. There were some golden moments, but I can think of a number of episodes that were a whole lot better. Whatever, it was still a great run.

I also totally have the pictured card above floating around somewhere in my house from Comic Con 2005. Now on to Avatar: The Last Airbender and mayyybee Twin Peaks if I really power through. But considering all the shit I still need to do and the fact that I only have two weeks left at home, I feel like Twin Peaks is gonna become something I watch on and off at college. Alas.

Okay, okay, I’m hopping on this bandwagon.

Rules So I Actually Keep The Money I Make

Just started season two, and holy crap, I forgot how strong an opener How Long is Forever? was and continues to be.

Seriously, I’ve never really understood Starfire haters. I mean, they were mostly emo thirteen year old girls who thought smiles were for losers and no puppy should go unkicked, but how can you not find her optimism anything short of positively infectious? More than any other episode (although there are many examples throughout the series), How Long is Forever really convinces you that Starfire is the heart and soul of the team, the love and affection that reminds the others how much they really need each other to survive. Cyborg’s a close second, but there’s no replacing her. Seriously, I almost cried just watching this episode.

There’s a quote that floats around the DC universe every once in a while: “The Justice Society teaches you to be a hero. The Titans teach you how to be a family. The League? The League teaches you how to fight.” (Ollie Queen/Green Arrow). And I love this quote, because it’s the perfect summation of each of these denominations of hero. Where the Titans were once “sidekick club”, it slowly found its footing in “support group” for kids who sometimes just didn’t know what they were getting into and needed some love. That’s why I adore the “The Titans” run so much slash why I’m trying to collect every issue (there are fifty of them, I’m short eighteen or so) of that particular incarnation. It was a bunch of people who really knew each other working out a lot of issues they had with the help of their closest friends while also fighting crime and being awesome. And I think that’s what I love so much about the Titans as a whole. No matter how awesome they were, or how big the villains, at the end of the day it always came down to personal relationships, which was refreshing when so many other comics focused intensely on missions over the individuals.

So basically, this episode was awesome and I’m really looking forward to reliving every single one of the episodes ahead of me, especially since the second season is when the show really nails down what works and what doesn’t (in particular, Raven’s dialogue gets less “cryptic emo one liners” and more “complicated and deep but relatable”). God, there’s a reason Teen Titans will always be my favorite.

Also, Nightwing. Nothing more needs to be said after motherfucking Nightwing.

Y’know, I really liked this series. It was funny, had some great moments, stuck to its guns when it came to the weird stuff, and I’ll definitely be rewatching it some day because I’m sure there was a lot I missed with writing as clever as that. But I didn’t love it. Nothing in particular about this show grabbed me by the balls and refused to let go until I’d gone five days without sleeping to power through every episode. Which I’m sad about, because so many people love it so much. Ultimately, however, if this show was still running, it would definitely be the type I’d watch on hulu when I was caught up on all my other shows and had no desire whatsoever to do my Ethics paper.

Still, good run. I’ll definitely be returning to this one, but probably never more than once.
